The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) will elect its parliamentary candidate for the September 2 by-election, and voting is now taking place in the Akwatia Constituency.

At the constituency’s designated polling places, polls will close at 4:00 p.m. after opening at 7:00 a.m..

Three candidates are vying for the primary: lawyer Bernard Bediako Baidoo, who is new to the constituency’s parliamentary race; Erasmus Koney Ali, also known as Asanka, who is currently an assembly member and the presiding member at the local Assembly; and Henry Boakye Yiadom, who was the party’s 2024 parliamentary candidate and a former member of parliament for Akwatia.

The result will decide who would represent the NDC in the by-election that was required six months after the general elections in December 2024 due to the passing of Ernest Kumi, the current Member of Parliament.

The parliamentary by-election in Akwatia has been formally scheduled for September 2, 2025, by the Electoral Commission.
