Today, the Value For Money Office Bill was discussed in Parliament at its second reading.
The Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, moved the motion for second reading, stating that the purpose of the Bill is to create the Value for Money Office, which will oversee, monitor, coordinate, encourage, and develop value for money assessments to improve accountability, efficiency, and transparency in the administration of public spending and procurement.
On behalf of his Caucus, Minority Leader Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin fiercely opposed the creation of the Value for Money Office.
He contended that the planned Value for Money Office’s mandate would be identical to the Public Procurement Authority’s, emphasising that the office would open the door to further corruption in the public sector.
The House read the Value for Money Office Bill, 2026 for the second time and approved the Finance Committee’s report by voice vote.
