Yes! The Deputy Minister for Health, Hon. Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, urged Ghana to join the international world on World Tuberculosis Day 2026, saying, “We Can End TB: Led by Communities, Powered by the People.”

She called for a renewed dedication to eradicating tuberculosis, pointing out that although 44,000 Ghanaians contract the illness annually, less than half are identified and treated.

In addition to the Free Primary Healthcare program to enhance early detection and treatment access, the Deputy Minister emphasised government initiatives to improve diagnosis and care, such as the purchase of 15 GeneXpert machines, AI-enabled digital X-ray systems, and TB-LAM test kits.

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, emphasised in his speech the importance of identifying and treating each case of tuberculosis in order to stop the disease’s spread and save lives.

He praised the commitment of medical professionals nationwide, pointing out that their unceasing efforts to identify, treat, and assist those afflicted with tuberculosis are essential to the country’s battle against the illness.

WHO Country Representative Fiona Braka stressed that TB still kills people in Africa every 83 seconds and urged more funding, stronger leadership, and empowered communities to put an end to the illness.

Ghana’s World TB Day call to action highlights that eliminating tuberculosis as a danger to public health is achievable with strong leadership, sufficient resources, and engaged community involvement.
