The New Patriotic Party, the National Democratic Congress, and the two independent candidates were praised by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for holding a calm and transparent by-election in Kumawu in the Ashanti Region.

The Electoral Commission, headed by Jean Mensa, was praised by Mr. Akufo-Addo for continuing to conduct “the best elections in the 4th Republic.”

Ernest Anim of the NPP defeated Kwesi Amankwah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Kweku Duah, a pair of independent candidates, with 15,264 votes cast on Tuesday.

Kwesi Amankwah of the NDC received 3,723 votes, compared to Kwaku Duah (1)’s 2,478 and the other Kwaku Duah’s meager 62.

“I heartily congratulate the Kumawu people on holding a peaceful, credible, and transparent by-election on May 23, 2023, to choose their new Member of Parliament, which has given Ghanaian democracy a significant boost.

“I extend my congratulations to the NPP, NDC, and the two independent candidates for their role in achieving this successful result. I also commend the Electoral Commission under Jean Mensa for continuing to hold the best elections in the 4th Republic.

“Finally, I would like to congratulate Ernest Yaw Anim, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, on winning the by-election with a resounding 71% of the vote. He, the NPP’s national, regional, constituency, and polling station leaders and party workers deserve high praise for the excellent work they did to produce this successful outcome, which included one of the biggest turnouts in a by-election in the Fourth Republic’s history. He will serve as an excellent parliamentarian for the Kumawu people, in my opinion. The elephant is still moving forward.

“God bless Ernest Yaw Anim, the people of Kumawu, and the Ghanaian democracy. May God also bless all of us, and may He make our country, Ghana, great and strong.”
