Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s remarks have drawn criticism from Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin, who calls attempts to connect recent tumultuous scenes in Parliament to his own previous leadership style deceptive and unfair.
Amid increased tensions in the House, the Speaker provided a thorough explanation during the introduction of a scholarship program for Members of Parliament on Monday, November 17, 2025.
Instead of depending on popular narratives, he advised MPs and the public to focus on the factual record.
Afenyo-Markin’s assertions that he was inspired by Bagbin’s time as Minority Leader are untrue, according to Bagbin.
“What the Minority Leader is doing now is not what I did. He has expressed to you people that he took inspiration from my report. Please go and read my report. I never, on the floor, raised my voice. I never, on the floor, tried to show a certain power, no,” Bagbin stated.
He clarified that considered judgement, as opposed to conflict, was the foundation of his leadership approach.
“I study the political environment, test the pulse of the people, and then you play along with that. I didn’t do what you are doing,” he emphasised.
