The treatment of a female in Kupelga in the Upper East Region was deemed inhumane by the Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Protection.

In the widely shared video of the assault, a group of villagers, including old women, men, girls, and children, were seen circling the naked victim, who was sitting on the ground and coated in dirt from head to toe.

They might be heard yelling indignantly about whatever misdeed the girl with the sole bra might have perpetrated.

Some of them forced her to lie flat on her back while filming her private parts while forcing her legs apart.

Then they removed her bra, leaving her lying on the ground completely bare.

After being struck with what appeared to be a crude object, her forehead and a portion of her face were covered in what appeared to be blood.

She was then made to flee the town into what appeared to be a lonely bush.

The Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Protection responded to the incident in a statement released by its Public Affairs Directorate, describing the behavior as a “blatant violation of her human rights and dignity and, therefore, punishable by law.”

The ministry commended the Ghana Police Service for “issuing a call for a manhunt for the perpetrators in the case” and urged the public to “provide the police with any information that may enable the capture of the offenders.”

Additionally, it urged the populace to “remain vigilant and report anyone who commits these unlawful acts.”

In the meantime, Kupelga police have detained four people in relation to the event.

Awizore Amolt, 38, Akolbila Asorwogo, 19, Akolbila Ben, 21, and Atibila Aladago, 37, are the suspects.

Following a preliminary investigation into the aforementioned video, they were apprehended in the early hours of today, Tuesday, June 13, 2023, during a police intelligence operation.

While efforts are made to apprehend further conspirators, the four suspects who are now in police custody are supporting the investigation.

The victim will receive psycho-social help, according to the police, who claim to be in contact with her and her family and have made plans for a police clinical psychologist to do so.
