A daring vision for fair and compassionate healthcare service throughout the nation is being advanced by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares).

Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku described the Fund’s dedication to giving Ghanaians access to world-class specialised healthcare and financial assistance while bolstering the country’s medical infrastructure and specialist expertise in a speech at the Government Accountability Series.

She pointed out that the Fund, which is funded by a combination of NHIL allocations, government support, grants, investments, and voluntary donations, supports the activities of the National Health Insurance Authority.

Following a successful trial phase that evaluated patient onboarding, treatment monitoring, and claims administration systems, the nationwide patient assistance service is scheduled to formally launch in June 2026.

In order to decentralise specialised training and equip more medical professionals in oncology, cardiology, nephrology, endocrinology, and neurology, the Trust Fund has also worked with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, as well as nursing and pharmacy institutes.

In order to improve the provision of high-quality healthcare, vital medical supplies such dialysis machines, intensive care unit beds, and patient monitors have also been given to a number of healthcare facilities nationwide.
