The Public Services Workers’ Union’s National Identification Authority (NIA) striking employees have been ordered by the National Labour Commission (NLC) to immediately cease their continuing industrial action.
The instruction comes after the Commission, the union, the National Identification Authority, and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission met on Thursday, May 14, to discuss delays in implementing migration reports related to the workers’ working circumstances.
This was said in a May 14, 2026, statement.
The Commission states that by the end of May 2026, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has been instructed to assist in approving and implementing the migration report for NIA employees.
For reporting purposes, the case has been postponed until June 4, 2026.
“Fair Wages and Salaries Commission should facilitate the approval and implementation of the migration report on staff of the National Identification Authority by the end of May, 2026.
“The striking workers should call off the ongoing strike with immediate effect. The case is adjourned to 4th June, 2026, for reporting,” the statement said.
The Authority emphasised its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the NHIS through ongoing monitoring and verification procedures, although it did not specify how long the suspension would last.
The Authority stated that “service providers are to take further notice that a healthcare provider providing services under the National Health Insurance Scheme who defrauds or attempts to defraud the Scheme commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine or a term of imprisonment of not more than ten (10) years or both.”
The NHIA stated that it is still dedicated to guaranteeing accountability, openness, and the responsible use of public monies in providing all Ghanaians with affordable, high-quality healthcare.
