Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a former presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has lambasted the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the protracted delay in finishing the Afari Military Hospital in the Ashanti Region.
The $180 million, 500-bed military hospital project was started in March 2014 and was supposed to be finished in 42 months.
However, the facility is still unfinished twelve years after development started.
Following a recent visit by minority members of Parliament’s Health Committee, who voiced concern that the delay is impacting healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region due to congestion at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the matter has received fresh attention.
Kennedy Agyapong, a former chair of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, admitted to journalists in Accra on Tuesday, June 16, that the NPP had not finished the project during its eight years in power.
He stated that despite having plenty of time in office, the NPP was unable to move the project forward.
“When we came, I’m an NPP[member], but I have to tell you the truth. We’re talking about Ghana, we didn’t do anything. Read my lips, I’m telling you the gospel truth, When we came, I’m an NPP[member], but I have to tell you the truth. We’re talking about Ghana, we didn’t do anything. Read my lips, I’m telling you the gospel truth, You[NPP] were there for eight years.”
“You didn’t complete it. When somebody comes for 15 months, then you have a problem. Please give me a break,” he stated.
