The public has been strongly advised by the Ministry of the Interior to stay indoors and refrain from any non-essential movement in the wake of heavy rains that has caused flooding in many parts of the nation.

The directive is issued as emergency services step up their response efforts to mitigate the effects of the deluge, which has made a number of roadways inaccessible and prompted worries about pedestrian and vehicle safety.

The Ministry is advising those who are already at home to stay there as part of the precautionary measures, while those who are at work or other safe areas are asked to stay put until conditions improve and movement is considered safe.

Authorities have also strongly advised drivers and pedestrians not to attempt to cross flooded roads, bridges, or waterways because floodwaters can rise quickly and represent a major risk to life and property.

In the meantime, important emergency response organisations, such as the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces, have been sent to the impacted areas to help with rescue efforts, control traffic, and assist impacted communities.

In a statement released on Monday, June 29, the Ministry advised locals in flood-prone areas to seek higher ground if needed and to notify the closest security post or emergency response team of any situations or people in need.

As authorities continue to watch the situation, the Ministry has further advised the people to maintain composure, cooperate with local security officers, and strictly rely on official updates.

The Ghana Police Service can be reached at 18555 or 112, the Ghana National Fire Service at 192, or NADMO at 112 for emergency help.
