Investigations into allegations that a Chief Inspector assigned to the area owns unapproved wooden constructions at Asafo BB in Kumasi have been started by the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

The Command claimed in a statement released on Friday, July 10, 2026, that the officer is accused of owning the buildings and renting them to commercial sex workers.

According to the Police Command, it has started investigations to determine the facts underlying the claims and is treating them with the seriousness they merit.

According to the statement, “the Command assures the public that updates on the outcome of the investigations will be communicated as the process progresses.”

The investigation comes after Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, the mayor of Kumasi, claimed that certain police personnel owned unapproved buildings in Asafo that were reportedly utilised for prostitution and drug sales.

Following a demolition exercise conducted by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on Wednesday, 8 July, at Asafo, behind the COCOBOD headquarters, the Mayor made the statements.

He claimed that some of the buildings demolished during the exercise were purportedly owned by police officials and had been turned into hubs for illegal activity.
