A 32-year-old teacher was given a 12-year prison sentence by the court for defiling a 12-year-old student.
According to Section 101(2) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), as amended by Section 18 of Act 554, Hondana Mensah was found guilty of defilement.
After the prosecution proved the crime, the accused was found guilty and sentenced by the court, which was presided over by Mr. Kwasi Appiatse Abaidoo.
The complainant, a 43-year-old entrepreneur, resides in Combine, an Akosombo suburb, with her 12-year-old daughter, a Class Six student, according to Chief Inspector Godsway Kromoah, who prosecuted the case.
Mensah, the victim’s class teacher, had been giving the youngster private French lessons for roughly four years after the complaint hired him, according to the prosecution.
The prosecution claims that on July 11, 2026, the complainant noticed changes in her daughter’s gait and asked her certain questions.
The child said that the instructor had sex with her while teaching at the family’s home on July 8, 2026, at around 1700 hours.
The accused allegedly told the victim not to disclose the incident since doing so would make her look bad, according to what the court heard.
According to the prosecution, he allegedly threatened to fail her in his subject on the end-of-term exams if she revealed the information.
The complainant and the victim both gave statements after the incident was reported to the police.
Following the issuance of a medical report form by the police, a medical examination at a government hospital revealed results that were compatible with sexual assault.
On July 12, 2026, Mensah was taken into custody. He denied having sex with the victim in his cautious statement.
He was accused of defilement and brought before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court after investigations.
He was given a 12-year prison sentence by the court, which described it as a deterrent to sexual acts involving minors and other vulnerable people.
