Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has urged the Nigerian government to look into claims that Ghanaian business tycoon Sir Sam Jonah’s assets were attacked.
The minister made the request after receiving the letters of credence from Shehu Ilu Barde, Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate to Ghana, at a meeting intended to improve bilateral ties between the two nations.
Mr. Ablakwa emphasised the need to safeguard investments and maintain investor trust internationally, and he requested the envoy to investigate worries about Sir Sam Jonah’s Mobus Properties in Nigeria.
He claims that fostering closer economic relations between Ghana and Nigeria depends on protecting investments.
The Foreign Affairs Minister was reassured by the High Commissioner-designate that he will investigate the issue and consult with the relevant authorities and stakeholders on the properties’ concerns.
Expanding cross-border trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) was the main topic of discussion during the meeting, which also concentrated on strengthening economic cooperation between Ghana and Nigeria.
In order to increase bilateral trade and open up more economic prospects, Mr. Ablakwa urged for the reduction of trade obstacles between the two nations.
He went on to call on Nigeria and the other ECOWAS members to increase trust in the proposed ECO single currency, characterising it as a crucial step in strengthening regional economic integration and commerce.
Mr. Barde, for his part, thanked the Ghanaian government for the kind welcome and reiterated Nigeria’s dedication to enhancing the two nations’ long-standing diplomatic and commercial ties.
