The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested veteran Ghanaian boxer Michael Nii Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, over an alleged threat of death against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
The 46-year-old boxer was arrested following the circulation of a video on social media in which he was allegedly heard making threatening remarks against the NSA Director-General.
Ayitey Powers Assisting Police Investigations
In a statement signed by Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs of the Accra Regional Police Command, the Police confirmed that Ayitey Powers had been taken into custody in connection with the alleged threat.
The Police said the former boxer is currently assisting with investigations as officers work to establish the circumstances surrounding the video and the alleged comments.
The arrest has attracted attention among sports followers and social media users as authorities investigate the matter.
Police Warn Against Unverified Information
The Accra Regional Police Command assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with Ghanaian law based on the findings.
