The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested seven suspects during an intelligence-led narcotics operation targeting the suspected distribution and possession of illegal and unregistered drugs.
The arrests were carried out at different locations across the Ashanti Region as part of efforts by the Ghana Police Service to combat drug-related offences and protect communities from illicit substances.
Two Arrested at Ejisu
At Ejisu, the Police arrested 43-year-old Nana Kwadwo Adu and 48-year-old Nana Kwame Fella.
Four Arrested at Abrepo Junction
Police also arrested four suspects at Abrepo Junction. They have been identified as 23-year-old Stephanie Anokye, 20-year-old Roland Anokye, 30-year-old Gideon Owusu and 27-year-old Grace Fosua.
Suspect Arrested at Atimatim
At Atimatim, the Police targeted 27-year-old Kofi Opoku, who was allegedly involved in the peddling of narcotic substances. According to the Police, the suspect had previously evaded arrest.
The intelligence-led operation led to the recovery of several suspected narcotic and unregistered pharmaceutical products.
Among the items recovered were quantities of pill pouches containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, as well as Tramak 225mg and 250mg, Royal 255mg and Rophynol 100mg.
The Police also seized 860 tablets and capsules of Tramadol, which are suspected to be unregistered drugs. An undisclosed amount of Ghanaian currency was also recovered during the operation.
All seven suspects are currently in Police custody and are assisting investigators as the Ghana Police Service continues investigations into the suspected drug-related offences.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Police to clamp down on narcotics trafficking, illegal drug sales and the circulation of unregistered medicines in the Ashanti Region.
