The Ministry of Finance has confirmed that all 6,300 Ghana Education Service (GES) staff recruited in 2024 without financial clearance have received their outstanding salaries and arrears.
The clarification follows concerns raised by the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Staff of the GES, which had appealed for the payment of salary arrears owed to affected teachers and other newly recruited personnel.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the Ministry explained that the government inherited the issue in 2025 and subsequently took steps to resolve the outstanding GES salary payments.
According to the Ministry of Finance, Cabinet approval was obtained and the necessary financial clearance was subsequently issued to enable the government to process the payments in four tranches.
The Ministry said the payment process has now been completed, with all 6,300 affected GES staff receiving their salaries and arrears under the approved arrangement.
No Pending GES Financial Clearance Requests
The Ministry of Finance also clarified that there are currently no outstanding financial clearance requests from the Ghana Education Service awaiting action from the Ministry.
Staff members who may still have unresolved issues concerning their salaries, arrears or payroll records have been advised to contact the Ghana Education Service directly for assistance.
The Ministry said such cases may require administrative or payroll-related checks to resolve individual payment concerns.
The latest clarification is expected to ease concerns among affected Ghana Education Service teachers and staff who had been awaiting payment of their outstanding salaries.
The development also highlights the government’s efforts to address public sector salary arrears, GES recruitment issues and financial clearance challenges affecting newly recruited workers.
