The government is preparing to announce a new cocoa producer price for the 2026/2027 cocoa season, paving the way for a fresh pricing structure for cocoa farmers across Ghana.

The announcement is expected to come as authorities work to secure adequate cocoa sector financing and address liquidity challenges ahead of the new cocoa season.

Ghana Cocoa Board Engages International Traders

Ahead of the new cocoa producer price announcement, the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has held discussions with major international cocoa trading companies in London.

The engagements formed part of preparations for the 2026/2027 cocoa season and focused on several issues affecting Ghana’s cocoa industry.

Key areas discussed included the newly enacted Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026, the proposed cocoa sector financing framework, preparations for the upcoming season, and plans to raise funds through commercial paper and bond financing.

The discussions also covered liquidity arrangements for the new cocoa season and potential private-sector financing support for Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs).

Another major issue on the agenda was Ghana’s preparedness to implement the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which has implications for cocoa exports to the European market.

2025/2026 Cocoa Producer Price

Earlier in the year, the government maintained the cocoa producer price for the 2025/2026 light crop season, despite a decline in international cocoa prices.

The producer price remained at GH¢1,241.76 per 30-kilogramme load for Grade I and II cocoa beans.

Farmers were also receiving GH¢2,587 per 64-kilogramme gross bag, translating into approximately GH¢41,392 per tonne, equivalent to 16 bags of cocoa.

New Cocoa Price to Impact Farmers and Industry

The upcoming 2026/2027 cocoa producer price is expected to determine how much cocoa farmers will receive for their beans during the new season.

The new pricing decision could have significant implications for cocoa farmer incomes, cocoa purchasing arrangements, Licensed Buying Companies and the financial sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector.

With financing and liquidity remaining key issues ahead of the new season, stakeholders in Ghana’s cocoa industry will be closely watching the government’s announcement.

The new cocoa price will also be important for determining the broader outlook for Ghana’s cocoa production, cocoa exports and the sustainability of the country’s cocoa value chain.
