After their original protest failed to get their petition presented, the Minority in Parliament is planning another protest against Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
A combination of minority MPs, proponents of the New Democratic Party, and other interest groups staged the #OccupyBoG demonstration on October 3, 2023, calling for the resignations of Dr. Addison and his deputies due to accusations of economic mismanagement and illicit currency production.
The head of security received the Minority’s petition during the protest in Accra, foiling their attempt to deliver it straight to the Governor.
The opposition parliamentarians and the gathering that accompanied them were not satisfied with this action and insisted on speaking with the governor directly about the policies and practices of the central bank.
The planned protest is expected to begin at Obra Spot, which is a well-liked gathering place for protests in Accra.
After that, the demonstrators will march through a number of well-known areas, such as Rawlings Park, Kingsway, and Farisco, before arriving at the BoG headquarters.
This time, they intend to successfully present their petition to the governor.
Classfmonline.com has received confirmation from sources that Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga will spearhead the demonstration, provided she receives the required authorization and approval from the police.
Mr. Ayariga, who is well-known for taking strong positions on financial and economic matters, is anticipated to lead this protest, mobilizing participants and demanding openness and responsibility from the central bank.
Concerns about inflation, monetary policy, and the general administration of the nation’s financial system are at the heart of the demonstration.
Due to the Minority’s claims that these problems have not received enough attention, further protests have been held in order to forward their demands.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and other pertinent state entities have received several demands and petitions from the NDC MP, who has been engaged in a long-running campaign to hold the BoG Governor responsible.
These include, among other things, worries about the bank’s indebtedness, the building of the new head office facility, and the governor’s multimillion-dollar home.
