President Nana Akufo-Addo’s leadership style has been widely criticized, according to a post-election study, with 87% of participants saying he is indifferent to public issues.
His opposition to suggestions that would have increased the party’s chances in the 2024 elections was a source of annoyance for many.
Although respondents agreed that Akufo-Addo’s first term was generally good, they contended that his second term was characterized by inflexibility and a refusal to consider popular opinion.
He was heavily criticized for not rearranging his ministers, especially his cousin and former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
A group of 87 Members of Parliament (MPs), primarily from the Ashanti Region, demanded that Ofori-Atta be fired in 2022 after receiving pressure from their constituents.
But Akufo-Addo disregarded these appeals, which caused his party to become increasingly displeased.
Some MPs reportedly faced political repercussions for supporting the effort to oust Ofori-Atta, according to the study, which indicated that his inaction contributed to internal divides.
The study came to the conclusion that the president’s contentious choices and leadership style contributed to the party’s electoral difficulties, with many people regretting their prior support for him.
