Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, the recently appointed Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has pledged to maintain impartiality, accountability, and transparency in the National Health Insurance Scheme’s (NHIS) operations.

He spoke at a staff durbar in Tamale on his working tour to the Northern Region and lamented the sporadic unfavorable reports of extortions and the theft of funds intended for the expansion of the Scheme.

Thus he underlined the necessity for employees to uphold moral principles that prohibit corrupt behavior in order to rebuild public trust in the NHIS.

In order to avoid fraud and misappropriation, restore public trust in the NHIS, and fulfill the President’s vision of delivering free primary healthcare to everyone and Mahama Cares to people with chronic kidney diseases in Ghana, Dr. Bampoe described his plan to tighten internal controls.

In order to strengthen the NHIS, he emphasized the value of teamwork and asked for the assistance and collaboration of every employee.

In order to resolve valid employee issues and enhance their working circumstances, he also declared that a human resources audit had been commissioned.

“It is not only resetting the country but resetting the way we do our things. We expect that you work even harder, smarter, and produce even more so that we can make the NHIS in Ghana proud.”

Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, the Deputy Chief Executive of Operations, exhorted the employees to maintain discipline in their line of work.

“We certainly have to monitor all these because the road to universal health coverage comes by onboarding everybody, ensuring that nobody is denied quality healthcare because of funding.”

“So it will be a pleasant right, and I’m sure it will be tough as well because there’s no way we’ll tolerate indiscipline and the negative practices, therefore, working under the leadership of Dr Bampoe, it is prudent to instill some form of corporate excellence in the NHIA that will be enviable to all.”

On behalf of the employees, Mr. Abdulai Alhassan Nambili, the Acting Northern Regional Director, thanked the CEO for giving them hope for future career advancement.

According to him, the regional management team is still dedicated to helping the new CEO carry out the government’s revolutionary goals.

He made a plea to the CEO to resolve some of the operational issues facing the area so that they can meet their yearly goals of covering all NHIS active members.

Even when several employees openly voiced their complaints, they reiterated their dedication to the CEO’s mission.
