Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, the former flag bearer candidate for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who withdrew from the race in the just-concluded Presidential and Parliamentary primaries, has denied reports that he is to leave the party.

Dr. Duffour claims that he has no such plans to leave the NDC and start a new party. “I wish to state that I have no such intentions and remain committed to the NDC as I have always been,” Dr. Duffour emphasized in a statement.

The NDC is my home, as it is for us all, and I will always be devoted to our party, he said. Let’s all work together for the success of our party and the advancement of our country.

According to Mr. Duffour, “When I entered the race for the NDC flagbearership, I was motivated by a desire to see our party flourish as the political party of choice for every Ghanaian.” He said, “Today, that motivation remains unchanged.”

Dr. Duffuor abruptly withdrew from the NDC’s contest for flag bearer.

On the eve of the Saturday, May 13, 2023, elections, he told journalists that he had no choice but to proceed in such manner because “I cannot contest in an election which is blatantly fraught with irregularities regardless of all my efforts to draw attention to save it.”

Earlier, Dr. Duffuor filed an interlocutory order to stop the primaries from happening.

Later, he withdrew it from court, allowing the elections to proceed as planned.
