A 54-year-old woman died after being hit by a Toyota Hilux in Bibiani Old Town, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality.
According to reports, Mary Gamage, the deceased, was crossing the street at the time of the occurrence.
The suspect, 42-year-old Fredrick Ampadu Yeboah, was travelling from Goaso to Bibiani in a Toyota Hilux registered GE 2119-19, according to the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Bibiani.
According to the police, the pedestrian was knocked down by the driver’s apparent failure to use sufficient caution when he reached a part of the road at Bibiani Old Town.
Mary Gamage was seriously injured and taken to Bibiani Government Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Mubarik Zakari, Assembly Member for Old Town, verified the occurrence and stated that the suspect had been apprehended and was supporting police with their investigations.
The deceased’s remains has been deposited at the Bibiani mortuary.
