AngloGold Ashanti has donated GH₵445,000 to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to support the military’s self-help housing initiative under the Burma Camp Redevelopment Project.
The financial contribution was received by the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, during a courtesy visit by a delegation from AngloGold Ashanti.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Emmanuel Baidoo, Senior Manager of Community Relations for Africa at AngloGold Ashanti, expressed the company’s appreciation for its longstanding relationship with the Ghana Armed Forces.
He explained that the partnership between the two institutions was a key factor behind the company’s decision to support the Burma Camp housing project.
According to Baidoo, the donation forms part of AngloGold Ashanti’s broader commitment to community development, empowerment and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
He said the company remains committed to supporting initiatives that have a positive impact on communities and contribute to sustainable development.
CDS Commends AngloGold Ashanti for Support
In response, Lieutenant General William Agyapong praised AngloGold Ashanti for its continued support and described the relationship between the mining company and the Ghana Armed Forces as a productive partnership.
The CDS noted that the collaboration has existed for several years, with previous assistance from AngloGold Ashanti supporting infrastructure development, particularly projects benefiting personnel under the Central Command.
Lieutenant General Agyapong encouraged the company to view the GH₵445,000 donation as part of a long-term partnership rather than a one-off contribution.
He further urged AngloGold Ashanti to continue considering the Ghana Armed Forces when developing future corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Officials Attend AngloGold Ashanti-GAF Engagement
Members of the AngloGold Ashanti delegation included Desmond Banahene, Director of Security and Human Rights, and Keziah Enyan, Communications Specialist.
Representatives from the Ghana Chamber of Mines who attended the engagement included Albert Amekudzi, Director for External Relations and Sustainability, and Priscilla Animah Owusu, Research and Analysis Assistant.
Also present on behalf of the Ghana Armed Forces were Rear Admiral Francis Ayitevi Nyarko, Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics; Brigadier General George Abosi Oppong, Director General of the Defence Industries Department; and Lieutenant Colonel Rita Anane, Deputy Director of Community Relations.
The latest contribution highlights the growing collaboration between AngloGold Ashanti and the Ghana Armed Forces, particularly in supporting infrastructure, housing and community-focused development projects in Ghana.
