The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s attorneys have been granted 24 hours by the High Court in Accra to submit a medical justification for their client’s nonattendance at the defendant’s defamation trial, which is valued at GH¢ 20 million.

The lawsuit was brought by former Auditor-General Professor Dua Agyeman in response to remarks made by Mr. Asiedu Nketia in the media, according to which Prof. Agyeman produced fraudulent audit reports, which led to the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) firing him.

On Monday, July 1, Mr. Asiedu Nketia, who has not physically appeared in court since the case began in October 2018, was scheduled to provide his defense, but he did not show up.

The court, presided over by Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, asked the defendant’s attorneys to show a medical excise duty to support their claim after learning that the defendant was ill.
