The Bank of Ghana (BoG) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have issued a strong warning to the public about a suspected crypto investment scam operating under the name “Daily Wealth Guide.”

The financial regulators said the platform is allegedly being promoted using a doctored video purportedly showing President John Dramani Mahama endorsing the cryptocurrency investment scheme.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the Bank of Ghana said the operators of the platform are targeting Ghanaians with promises of high investment returns while encouraging individuals to deposit money into the scheme.

Bank of Ghana Warns Against Unlicensed Crypto Investment

The BoG explained that activities involving the collection of deposits from members of the public fall under the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930).

Under the law, entities that engage in deposit-taking activities are required to obtain the appropriate licence before operating.

The central bank stressed that it has not licensed any individual or company to conduct crypto investment activities, warning members of the public to exercise extreme caution when approached by online investment platforms promising unusually high returns.

According to the BoG, individuals or companies participating in the alleged scheme could be committing an offence. Those found culpable may face sanctions and could also be required to refund money collected from investors.

Crypto Investment Fraud Could Attract Heavy Penalties

The Bank of Ghana further disclosed that offenders could face administrative penalties ranging from 500 to 100,000 penalty units under Section 53(3) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).

The central bank added that individuals and organisations suspected of operating illegal financial schemes could be referred to law enforcement agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.

The warning comes amid growing public interest in cryptocurrency, digital assets and online investment opportunities, making it important for investors to verify the legitimacy of platforms before committing their money.

Public Urged to Verify Investment Platforms

The BoG has advised Ghanaians to confirm the licensing status of investment companies, financial institutions and individuals with the Bank of Ghana or other relevant regulatory authorities before depositing funds.

The public has also been cautioned against being influenced by online advertisements, social media promotions, celebrity endorsements or manipulated videos that appear to promote investment opportunities.

The central bank further called on radio stations, television networks, websites and other media platforms to conduct proper verification before advertising products or services offered by unlicensed financial entities.

BoG and SEC Issue Crypto Scam Warning

The Bank of Ghana and Securities and Exchange Commission have urged members of the public to stay away from the Daily Wealth Guide investment scheme and avoid depositing money with its operators.

Anyone who suspects illegal financial or investment activity has been encouraged to report it to the Financial Stability Department of the Bank of Ghana.

The latest warning highlights the importance of conducting proper investment verification and financial due diligence before participating in cryptocurrency or other online investment schemes in Ghana.
