The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and learning facilities in schools operated by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The government’s education support programme will focus on the construction and rehabilitation of key facilities, including classrooms, dormitories, science laboratories and STEM education centres, as part of efforts to improve the quality of education and equip students with practical skills.
Speaking during a courtesy meeting with officials from the Ghana Armed Forces, the Education Minister said the Ministry of Education would initially prioritise major infrastructure projects at selected GAF institutions in Burma Camp, Takoradi, Tamale and Wa.
Haruna Iddrisu stressed that discipline, practical learning and skills development are essential to preparing Ghanaian students for the demands of the modern economy and their future contribution to national development.
Ghana Armed Forces Schools to Receive Infrastructure Upgrade
The Director of Ghana Armed Forces Education, Colonel Osman Zuneidu Sham-un, welcomed the government’s commitment and highlighted the major infrastructure challenges facing GAF schools across the country.
According to him, the schools require additional classrooms and dormitories, modern science laboratories, STEM centres, as well as equipment for technical and vocational workshops.
The proposed investments are expected to improve the learning environment and provide students with greater access to science, technology, engineering and mathematics education.
GAF Schools to Benefit from GETFund Support
The Education Minister also directed that Ghana Armed Forces schools be incorporated into the ongoing GETFund support arrangements for the provision of educational materials and school furniture.
The move is expected to help address some of the logistical challenges confronting GAF educational institutions and enhance teaching and learning conditions for students.
Meanwhile, officials of the Ghana Armed Forces indicated that preparations had already begun at selected locations to facilitate the implementation of the proposed education infrastructure projects.
The government’s renewed commitment forms part of broader efforts to strengthen education infrastructure in Ghana, expand access to STEM education and ensure that students in specialised educational institutions receive the facilities and resources needed for academic and practical development.
