Today, Thursday, December 8, the Parliament is scheduled to hear the censure motion brought up by the Minority against Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
K. T. Hammond, the co-chair of the 8-member committee that looked into the claims made by the Minority against the Finance Minister, delivered the report to Parliament on Friday, November 25.
The Minority, who filed the motion, listed seven reasons why it believes the Minister should be censured.
In support of himself, Mr. Ofori-Atta informed the Committee that the claims made by the proponents lacked “weight for censure.”
He continued by refuting each of the accusations, asserting that they are all untrue.
Regarding the claim that he purposefully misrepresented economic data to Parliament, he asserted that it is wholly untrue and that, since taking office in 2017, he has served the nation with honesty and integrity.
Since he took over as the ministry’s leader, he claims that there have been considerable advances in the correct reporting of state finances.
Haruna Iddrisu, the leader of the Minority, has acknowledged that without the backing of the Majority, the group lacks the necessary numbers to succeed in the censure.
In order to remove the Minister from office, he has urged the NPP MPs, particularly those who have petitioned the President to do so, to support the Motion during the secret vote.
