The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s Communication Directorate has refuted claims made by Nigerian journalist David Humdeyin that Dr. Bawumia’s campaign for the NPP presidential primary is being funded by a Nigerian Islamist organization.
In a social media post, Mr. Humdeyin claimed that the Islamic organization ACF is financing Dr. Bawumia’s campaign. Some people have urged Dr. Bawumia to clarify the situation based on the post.
However, the Directorate emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s campaign has absolutely no assistance from abroad in a statement flatly refuting the journalist’s assertion. This story is demonstrably fake, made up, and exclusively promoted for propaganda purposes.
To be clear, the Bawumia Campaign receives no support from or has any affiliation with any Islamic organization in Nigeria or anywhere.
We also observe that the aforementioned David Humdeyin has a history of falsely accusing individuals and organizations in Nigeria, according to the statement.
One of the front-runners in the NPP’s candidacy for flagbearer is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. In the primaries slated for November 2023, he is expected to prevail.
