Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former head of the National Signals Bureau, was given bail in the GHS49 million cybersecurity procurement controversy but was later detained on a fresh charge.
Adu-Boahene was first placed under detention on Friday, May 2, due to accusations of interfering with witnesses.
On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, following court processes, his attorney, Samuel Atta Akyea, announced his arrest.
Atta Akyea told the media that the arrest was related to another crime involving National Security’s provision of internet services to Ghana Water Limited.
“I’ve been hinted that it relates to secured Internet services for the benefit of another state institution, the Ghana Water Company, that national security provided them with gadgets and well-meaning things so that if you’re even in your room, you’ll be able to see the pipes and whether they are being tampered with,” he said.
The judge has postponed proceedings in the ongoing case concerning the purported diversion of GH¢49.1 million until May 26 in order to hold a case management meeting.
All of the state’s witness statements have been filed, and the defense must receive them by May 20 at the latest.
