Drivers and merchants at the Railways enclave next to the Cocoa Marketing Board (CMB) have received assurances from Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the mayor of Accra, that no developer will take over their truck stop.

Mayor Allotey vehemently denied transferring any land to private developers during a visit to the area on Wednesday following the demonstration, emphasizing that the President was dedicated to safeguarding the interests of traders and transport operators.

“As the Mayor of Accra, I have not sold any land to anybody. If anyone claims the land has been sold to him or her, they should bring the documentation,” he said, assuring the traders that “No one will take over your lorry station, not today or tomorrow.”

Declaring that “no construction will be allowed here,” the Mayor disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama had instructed him to express the government’s guarantee that the site was for the government and requested the aforementioned private developer to return his money from whoever allegedly sold the land.

Whenever such situations come up, drivers and traders should contact the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) or the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), according to Mayor Allotey.

“I am the government’s representative in Accra. Bring your concerns to me first before taking any action,” he said.

A driver’s representative expressed regret for not informing the Mayor or the AMA prior to the protest and admitted that the Mayor had no influence over any land sales.

He explained that their goal was not to disparage the AMA but rather to request government involvement.
