Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have received a strong directive from the party to abstain from media discussions of internal party matters that can sow division and damage the party’s reputation.
The directive was signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong in reaction to party members’ growing public outbursts of annoyance over the NPP’s loss in the most recent elections.
While acknowledging the emotional distress among party members, Mr. Frimpong called for composure and moderation in order to preserve party unity in a statement issued on Thursday, March 20.
“Many of us, as party members, have, on several platforms, expressed our anger, disappointment, and frustration. However, we humbly ask that all party faithful remain calm so that cooler heads may prevail at this time,” the statement read.
The General Secretary justified the request for members to immediately stop talks that cause discontent, negativity, and disenchantment in the media and other public venues by citing Article 10(7)(5) of the NPP Constitution, which requires the coordination of party actions.
Members were also reminded in the statement of Article 3(5), which requires all party members to uphold and protect the NPP’s reputation.
The party leadership at the national, regional, and constituency levels has been directed to forward any individuals who violate the instruction to the relevant disciplinary bodies in order to guarantee compliance.
“Let us uphold the values of the NPP and work together to rebuild a stronger party for the future,” the statement’s final rallying cry for unity said.
