Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, has promised the Ministry’s backing for Plan International Ghana’s forthcoming Digital Skills Project, calling it a timely endeavour that supports the government’s efforts to develop a workforce with digital skills.

During a courtesy call by Plan International Ghana representatives, Hon. Nartey George praised the organisation for coordinating its project with national priorities, including the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy and the “1 Million Coders Programme”.

With a 50:50 male-to-female participation ratio and a 10% quota for those with disabilities, he highlighted the government’s dedication to guaranteeing gender balance and inclusivity.

He gave the group his word that government organisations, such as the Kofi Annan ICT Centre of Excellence, would be made available to help the initiative institutionally and technically.

Mr Constant Tchona, the Country Director of Plan International Ghana, explained that the initiative, which is being carried out in collaboration with Nokia, will concentrate on teaching youth digital solutions creation, cybersecurity, and coding.

He added that in order to develop creative solutions to some of Ghana’s most urgent problems, participants will also be urged to investigate applications in the fields of healthcare, agriculture, and urban planning.

50% of the recipients will be women, he said, and the training will be delivered in four-month sessions at several locations, including Accra, Tamale, and Kumasi.

“Through this initiative, we are not just creating jobs; we are equipping young people to become problem-solvers in their communities,” he said.
