The University of Ghana Health Services Directorate has hosted a working visit by Health Minister Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh ahead of his next parliamentary briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the nation.

The purpose of the tour was to gather firsthand knowledge of recent COVID-19 advancements.

The Minister spoke with Professor Gordon Akanzuwine Awanare, the University of Ghana’s pro-vice chancellor, who gave him an update on the school’s COVID-19 response.

He pointed out that a recent increase in positive rates at the university prompted the adoption of preventative measures, such as community sensitization and the cessation of public events that were not academic in nature.

He added that since then, things have gotten better and are now under control.

Dr. Abdul-Samed Tanko, the chief executive officer of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), said that no new COVID-19 cases had been reported to the hospital.

However, as part of preparations, all care facilities have been activated.

The Minister also stopped by the Legon Student Clinic during his tour, where he spoke with patients and workers at the facility’s outpatient department.

In order to enhance healthcare service and protect public health, he praised the institution for its prompt response and urged closer cooperation with the Ministry of Health.
