An immediate probe of the rapidly deteriorating sections of the recently rebuilt 66-kilometer Tarkwa-Agona Nkwanta Road has been requested by Hon. Kwame Agbodza.

He noted that portions of the €95 million project were rapidly deteriorating during his inspection visit of important road projects in the Western Region on Friday.

Mr. Joaquim Ferreira, the project manager, blamed the early degradation on heavy-duty vehicles carrying bauxite, manganese, and other mining materials overwhelming the system.

About five trucks were arrested for overloading, some by as much as 20 tons, following the Minister’s and his team’s unexpected visit to the Apimanim axle load station.

“There is no doubt that overloading is damaging our roads, and the axle load program is quite problematic,” Hon. Agbodza told the reporters during the unexpected visit.

According to him, the Ministry has already appointed a five-member committee to look into the country’s axle load program’s operations so that the government can increase the program’s efficacy and efficiency.
