Solomon Sarpong Bagmae, the headmaster of Nkwanta Senior High School in the Nkwanta South Municipality, has been instructed by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to resign from his position effective immediately.
Following claims that Mr. Bagmae used the media without permission on August 4, 2025, to solicit public support for feeding students participating in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), the Acting Oti Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Irene Jacqueline Bra, issued the directive.
According to reports, Mr. Bagmae voiced concerns about the welfare of pupils getting ready for their final exams, which the GES deemed improper.
The GES claims that the measure is necessary to enable an impartial and unbiased inquiry into the issue.
Mr. Bagmae has been directed to relinquish all official responsibilities, abstain from public remarks regarding the matter, and transfer all school assets and administrative functions to the Regional Director of Education.
According to the GES, more instructions will be sent out soon.
“This directive follows your alleged unauthorised media engagement on August 4, 2025, during which you reportedly solicited public support for the feeding of students during the ongoing WASSCE without prior approval,” the GES said in a statement released on August 5.
Additionally, the GES refuted allegations that a “surge in candidate numbers” was causing a food supply shortage.
“The claim that there has been a ‘surge in candidate numbers’ at these schools is entirely false. The relocation of students was a controlled, planned action, and the numbers were well-known and accounted for. The assertion that food supply has been ‘overwhelmed’ is a blatant lie, as a comprehensive and ongoing support system has been put in place by the government and relevant stakeholders.”
“We find it deeply disturbing that a headmaster, who is a key figure in the consultative process, would be making such a baseless appeal. This report is a clear attempt to create a false narrative of government inaction and to generate public panic where none is warranted.”
