Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has led a powerful delegation to Bawku in the wake of a violent altercation that killed a civilian and injured numerous others, including security officials.
On April 10, 2025, the Ghana Police Service issued a statement stating that the IGP visited the volatile town in the Upper East Region together with a group of operations, investigation, and intelligence personnel. The purpose of the tour was to evaluate the present state of security and gather firsthand information.
Following the incident on April 9, the Police Service stated that peace has returned to the region as a result of collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces.
According to reports, the police and some of the town’s teenagers were involved in the altercation.
“One person, Fuseini Iddrisu, unfortunately lost his life during the incident, five other persons, including one Police officer and one Immigration officer sustained gunshot injuries and are on admission receiving medical attention,” the statement confirmed.
“Some properties belonging to the police including two vehicles and a rented police accommodation at Binduri as well as houses of some of the Police officers were damaged,” the release added.
