The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) leadership demanded today that Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, issue an unconditional apology for the recent attack on his person in the media.
Important topics for improving the collaboration between nurses and the government were also covered.
The Minister politely acknowledged the apologies and urged the Association to put communication and positive interaction with the government first.
He reaffirmed his dedication to building a solid alliance with medical experts in order to enhance healthcare services across the country.
Hon. Akandoh outlined some of the accomplishments of the current administration, pointing out that the government has made great progress, such as retooling various government health facilities, establishing the Ghana Medical Training Fund (GMTF), and integrating 13,500 nurses into the government payroll.
He also cited the government covering half of nurse training institutes’ admission fees and the reimbursement of arrears on National Health Insurance claims and nursing training allowances.
The Minister promised to support the continuous transformation of the health sector in order to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and to ensure the effective execution of the collective bargaining agreement to improve the condition of service for nurses.
He asked the public and all parties involved to maintain their composure since the government is dedicated to finding solutions for the problems facing the health sector.
The GRNMA leadership brought up a number of issues that impact nurses and other healthcare workers during the meeting, urging immediate action to improve service delivery.
The immediate past president, Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey; the current president, Dr. Krobea Asante; perpetual ofori-Am pofo; and the general secretary, Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, were among the leadership who paid the honorable minister a visit.
