The State Transport Company (STC) has urged customers to be patient amidst mounting concerns over long wait times at its terminals and the condition of some of its buses.

According to management, actions are already being made to deal with the issues, such as plans to add roughly 120 more buses to the company’s fleet by year’s end.

The worries stem from a widely shared video in which numerous travellers bemoaned lengthy delays and what they called subpar service at several STC stations around the nation.

In response to the worries, Nuru Hamidan, the Deputy Managing Director in charge of Finance and Administration, clarified that the delays are mostly caused by stringent safety protocols carried out following each voyage.

“We have standards that we follow. What differentiates us from other buses is safety. Whenever a bus offloads passengers, it goes straight to the workshop for proper checks before it hits the road again,” he stated.

However, Mr. Hamidan admitted that the company now only has a small fleet of buses, which he claimed had impacted service delivery and increased passenger annoyance.

He reassured clients that management is making efforts to streamline processes and cut down on delays.

In the meanwhile, the firm stated that it anticipates adding roughly 120 new buses to its fleet by the end of the year, a move it believes will greatly enhance service delivery and relieve congestion at ports across the country.

STC added that in order to control passenger demand and lessen the effects of the current fleet deficit, it is depending on alliance relationships with other transport providers in the interim.
