Ghanaians have been urged to be patient with the administration by Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, and to have faith that the economy will quickly recover.
The minister claims that stronger economic development than predicted has been witnessed as a result of the measures put in place by President Akufo-Addo and other important economic officials.
On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in Accra, the Ministry of Health convened a three-day Annual Health Summit with the subject, “Quality Healthcare Delivery: A Catalyst for Achieving Universal Health Coverage in Ghana.” Dr. Amin Adam made this statement at the opening ceremony.
The minister disclosed that this year will be even better than last, with the economy expected to develop at a 1.5% growth rate and showing signals of expansion from the data.
“So when I say the recovery is strong, I mean it. Inflation has also been on the decline. From the peak of 54% at the end of 2022, twelve months later it came down to 25% and we are working to ensure that by the end of this year, inflation rate reaches 15% and by the end of 2027, inflation comes to a single digit. The digit we had before COVID struck our country and the rest of the world”, the Finance Minister said.
The minister added, “On behalf of the president I want to thank you for all the sacrifices you continue to make and to count on your patience, as we fix the economy to improve on the living conditions.” Ghanaians are bearing the hardship of these adjustments, he said, and reaching the necessary target will come at a huge financial cost.
Speaking briefly about the health sector, the minister said that his ministry will keep working to support it, acknowledging all of the requests and worries expressed by stakeholders in the field over funding.
“A healthy society is a productive society and a productive society is a growing economy and therefore there is a positive correlation between health delivery and economic growth and development”, he added.
The Summit’s goal is to monitor advancements made and its output from the previous year in order to provide guidance for future health sector decision-making.
