The chiefs and people of Dagbon have been hailed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for their mutual understanding, which has helped to resolve the protracted chieftaincy struggle in the Dagbon Kingdom.
He stated that the reconciliation committee should be recognized for its excellent work in ensuring peace in Dagbon.
“The lasting peace to the Dagbon protracted chieftaincy is an achievement to my government,” the President declared.
When the President paid Ya-Na Abukari Mahama a courtesy call yesterday, he said “inform you that the mandate the good people of this country give me is coming to an end and I feel that it is good for me to come and to thank you for what have done for me as King of Dagbon.”
The peace and stability that Yendi and its surroundings had brought about, President Akufo-Addo continued, had greatly advanced the Dagbon Kingdom as a whole.
He said that in order to guarantee enduring peace throughout Ghana’s traditional areas, other traditional areas needed to follow Dagbon’s excellent example.
To the best of his knowledge, he indicated he was pleased to have served the people of this country.
In order to carry on the good work of the party, President Akufo-Addo urged Ya-Na and his sub chiefs, the people of Dagbon, to support NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by casting their votes for him.
In his speech, Ya-Na Abukari Mahama declared that the President’s heroic efforts to promote and bring peace and reconciliation to Dagbon would live on in his heart forever.
The execution of the funerals for two Ya-Nanima was made possible, he claimed, by his firm leadership in putting an end to the drawn-out mediation procedure between the Abudu and Andani families by the esteemed committee of eminent monarchs, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, the Nayiri, and the Yagbonwura.
Ya-Na claimed that peace had been preserved in their beloved Dagbon through his ongoing support in seeing to it that a new Ya-Na was installed and constant advice was provided.
He claimed that notwithstanding isolated incidents of lawlessness brought on by their own indifference and impatience, Dagbon is nevertheless experiencing unparalleled peace.
He said, “We cannot thank you enough and pray that the good Lord would continue to bless you appropriately,”
He was praised by Ndan Ya-Na for assigning his children and grandchildren to various administrative posts.
For this reason, he made a plea to Ghanaians for a calm and orderly electoral process nationwide.
Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, a member of parliament (MP), claimed that the peace the administration had brought to the region had inspired him to direct more resources there.
He said that he had been able to invest more in the constituency’s infrastructure development thanks to the tranquility they were experiencing.
Alhaji Mahama said, “The good people of Dagbon will always remember you for the peace you have given us.”
Nonetheless, he urged the Dagbon and Yendi people to give peace more time to flourish so that the Dagbon Kingdom can grow.
