Between January and December 2025, 2,949 individuals were killed in 14,743 road traffic crashes in Ghana, a significant rise from 2024, according to preliminary figures from the National Road Safety Authority.
The total number of crashes increased by 9.3 percent, from 13,489 in 2024 to 14,743 in 2025.
Along with the increase in incidents, there was a matching increase in vehicle involvement, with 24,938 vehicles involved in crashes this year, up from 22,975 in 2024. This is an 8.5% rise.
Fatalities in 2025 increased dramatically, from 2,494 fatalities in 2024 to 2,949 deaths, an increase of 455 lives lost.
Road traffic fatalities have increased by 18.2% as a result, making them the indicator with the greatest rate of growth among all road crash statistics for the year.
During the time under consideration, there was also an increase in injuries from traffic accidents.
In 2025, there were 16,714 injuries reported, up from 15,607 in 2024.
This represents a 7.1% rise, underscoring the increasing strain that traffic accidents place on emergency services and public health.
One of the most vulnerable road users is still pedestrians.
According to the figures, between January and December 2025, 2,561 pedestrians were knocked down in road accidents, an increase from 2,394 the year before.
Concerns over pedestrian safety, particularly in urban and busy locations, have been rekindled by this 7.0% increase.
