The Koforidua High Court in the Eastern region has granted bail to Freddie Blay, the former chairman of the New Patriotic Party.

He was given GHC 800,000 in bail with two sureties.

The ruling comes after the Akropong Circuit Court remanded him previously due to a purported demolition issue at Kitase. As the investigation into the case continues, Freddie Blay is scheduled to reappear before the circuit court on April 9.

On Monday, March 16, 2026, a warrant for his arrest was executed in Accra, and he was turned over to the Akropong Police.

The prosecution is based on allegations that he gave the order to demolish a house that was being built on a piece of land in Kitase.

Police said that after Mr. Blay allegedly declined an invitation to help with enquiries, the landowner filed a complaint.

Following the filing of charges, an arrest warrant was issued since he failed to show up for his scheduled arraignment in April 2025.

Sources close to Mr. Blay, however, assert that prior to his detention, he was not aware of the warrant. They contend that the disagreement has to do with land he bought in 1994, which was subsequently the focus of legal action.

The sources further maintain that Mr. Blay ordered the clearing of a bare plot of ground in January 2026 in order to stop the reproduction of harmful creatures, including reptiles, rather than ordering the demolition of any buildings.

Additionally, they revealed that although though the complainant had previously won a positive decision in the Koforidua High Court, that ruling has subsequently been appealed.

They state that attempts to serve the complainant with appeal-related procedures have failed.
