Construction of the 34-kilometre Tamale 3rd Ring Road is progressing steadily under the government’s Big Push Infrastructure Programme, with some sections of the major road project currently ahead of schedule.
The project involves the construction of an asphaltic concrete dual carriageway stretching across the Tamale Metropolis and Sagnarigu Municipality. The road is expected to improve connectivity for several communities, including Kanvilli, Tuunayili, Fuo, Vittin, Banvim, Datoyili, Shishegu, Kpalsi, Gurugu and Jisonayili.
Tamale 3rd Ring Road Project Progress
The project has been divided into three major lots, with construction advancing at different stages:
- Lot 1 – Banvim to Jisonayili: Being constructed by M/S China Railway No. 5, the section is currently 27.40% complete and ahead of schedule.
- Lot 2 – Jisonayili to Kanvilli: Constructed by M/S Sinohydro Corporation Limited, this section is 10.50% complete.
- Lot 3 – Kanvilli to Vittin Barrier: Being undertaken by M/S Munisco Limited, the section is 38.50% complete and ahead of schedule.
The progress comes as the government intensifies investment in road infrastructure and transportation development in Ghana through the Big Push programme.
Following an inspection of the Tamale 3rd Ring Road project last Friday, Minister of Roads & Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza highlighted the importance of the road to the region’s development.
According to him, the completion of the project will help reduce traffic congestion, improve vehicular movement and boost economic activities across the Tamale Metropolis.
The Tamale 3rd Ring Road is therefore expected to play a major role in improving transportation, connecting communities and supporting economic growth and infrastructure development in Northern Ghana.
