In honor of his late mother, former student Hajia Mariama Bawumia, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia donated a digital repository for Wesley Girls Senior High School, which was commissioned yesterday morning in Cape Coast.
Wesley Girls’ High School is a large academic institution with a rich 187-year history.
The repository will prove to be a valuable asset as it will make it easier for staff, current students, and alumni to access critical digital records about the school.
When Dr. Bawumia’s mother passed away in 2021, he was moved when her classmates from the 1960s came to visit and offer their condolences.
On the first anniversary of her death, Dr. Bawumia had the honor of being contacted to help the school with the creation of a digital repository, a project he gladly supported in memory of his late mother.
This was done on behalf of the Old Girls’ Association.
The project’s outcome is that all student records are now digital and easily accessible with a single click.
Three of his mother’s classmates, Mrs. Nancy Thompson, Dr. Mrs. Cecelia Bentsi, and Dr. Mrs. Matilda Papoe, attended the ceremony and showed their appreciation to Dr. Bawumia.

He hopes that all other colleges and universities that haven’t done so yet will take his lead and digitize their priceless documents.
