Packages of chemicals believed to be marijuana that were seized at Liero, a village in the Sissala West District of the Upper West area, are said to have vanished while in the police’s hands.
The amount and whereabouts of the drugs that the police took away after a dispute at the site are still unknown, according to a letter dated December 5, 2022 that was sent to the state attorney in the area asking for his assistance in the situation.
“…the team couldn’t agree on how to handle the drugs that were intercepted because of a disagreement (between the police and immigration agents). The majority of the compressed bundles were left with the police at the site, while 981 of them are purportedly being held in custody by immigration officials of the team at the Hamile border, according to the commission.
The majority of the drugs left with the Police remain unaccounted for, according to the Narcotics Control Commission’s letter to the Regional State Attorney, although the commission has since confirmed the goods in the possession of Immigration Services.

Acting on information, the Ghana Immigration and the Police Service (FPU) combined squad launched a swoop on the home of a man (name withheld) at Liero while on routine patrol along several prohibited routes bordering Burkina Faso.
According to a statement released in Wa on Saturday, bags filled with compressed substances thought to be marijuana were found in almost every room of the property.
