More than 47,000 printed Ghanacards are still at different NIA offices waiting to be picked up by their rightful owners, according to Mr. Enoch Benjamin Sackey, the Western Regional Officer of the National Identification Authority (NIA), who expressed concern over the rising number of unclaimed cards in the area.
Following a discussion with Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson, Mr. Sackey underlined that some of these citizen acts impede the Authority’s efforts to improve identification services throughout the region.
He declared his intention to expedite the card distribution procedure and eliminate the backlog of unissued cards.
“As of now, we have received some 2,700 blank cards and are set to print over 15,000 pending cards within the next three weeks.”
“These will be made available for collection at both the regional and district offices,” Mr. Sackey said.
He emphasized that having a Ghanacard is becoming more and more necessary in order to access important public services, and urged residents who have registered but have not yet picked up their cards to contact their respective offices as soon as possible.
As part of its larger mission to assign a unique national identity number to each and every Ghanaian, the NIA keeps growing its activities and enhancing service delivery.
