The Government Explores AI Adoption for Better Governance

During the second week of July, Cabinet Ministers will participate in a two-day retreat led by Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, to explore and promote the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in their work.

The Minister disclosed this information today in the Ministry’s conference room during a presentation on AI policy given by Prof. Jerry John Kponyo, Project Lead, KNUST Engineering Education Project (KEEP).

The retreat attempts to:

1. Explore AI applicationsIdentify potential AI solutions to enhance governance and public service delivery

2. Develop strategic plans: Create roadmaps for integrating AI into ministerial operations

3. Foster collaboration: Encourage inter-ministerial cooperation and knowledge sharing on AI adoption

“This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for improved efficiency, transparency and decision-making”, he added.

The Hon. Minister claims that Ghana’s government can improve the lives of its population, boost economic growth, and improve public services by embracing AI.

Cabinet Ministers will get the opportunity to interact with AI specialists, exchange stories, and create plans for utilizing AI’s revolutionary potential at the retreat.

He emphasized that in order to supervise the creation and use of AI initiatives in Ghana, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Commission must be established.

According to him, doing so will maximize AI’s potential while guaranteeing its responsible and advantageous application.
