A 23-year-old man was taken into custody by police in Tarkwa for possessing 66 packages of illegal substances.

Police in the Western Region have detained Daniel Yeboah, age 23, on suspicion of smuggling 66 compressed packets that may have been Indian hemp.

The arrest happened at the Samreboi-Tanokrom snap checkpoint on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

Yeboah was stopped by police for a standard check while riding a tricycle, also referred to as a “Pragia.” He was found to be in possession of two travel bags that contained the alleged drugs.

Yeboah told police that a woman in Wenchi had given him the bags and told him to bring them to her at Mumuni Camp, which is close to Samreboi. He said that GH₵5,000 was paid to him for the delivery.

The police have begun a thorough investigation and are attempting to locate and apprehend the woman the suspect indicated.

Yeboah will be arraigned in court on Monday, August 4, 2025, according to the police.

The Regional Police Command has called on anyone with knowledge regarding the case or the accused woman to come forward.
