On January 30, the Court of Appeal will either approve or reject Kwasi Nyatakyi’s request, made by the former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), for investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas to reveal his identity prior to testifying in public.
Earlier on May 17, 2024, the Accra High Court had mandated that the journalist remove his mask in court.
At the Court of Appeal, however, state prosecutors filed an appeal against the high court’s ruling.
State Attorney Mr. Baffour Gyau informed the court, which was presided over by Justice Ruby Aryeetey, that the prosecution was awaiting the Court of Appeal’s ruling when the case was called to the high court yesterday.
In order to continue the case, it has been postponed until February 13.

Nyantakyi was seen on camera allegedly stealing $65,000 (about £48,000) from an undercover reporter posing as a businessman.
Among other things, the video showed senior football association officials allegedly accepting bribes to influence players’ invitations to the national team, the amount of playing time allotted to certain players, and the selection of players and referees who were deemed unfit to play.
Additionally, Number 12 revealed that over 100 referees were reportedly accepting payments to sway game results in favor of particular clubs.
More than 3,000 people attended the initial screening of the video, and many demanded that the GFA be dissolved completely and that its troubled president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, quit immediately.
Shortly after the video was released, Nyantakyi, the first vice president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), eventually resigned from all football-related posts.
Nyantakyi was then suspended by FIFA and subsequently given a life ban.
Due to his involvement in Anas’s Number 12 investigative exposé, the former president of GFA was charged with fraud and corruption.
Mr. Nyantakyi has entered a not guilty plea on the charge of conspiring to commit fraud alongside Abdulai Alhassan, the former Northern Regional representative of the GFA.
In order to provide justification, the two football administrators were granted their previous bail value of GH¢1 million apiece, accompanied by three sureties.
Additionally, they must keep the case investigator informed until the outcome is known.
