The Attorney General should prosecute Mr. Frank Oliver Kpodo, a former Director of Procurement at the Ministry of Defence, for allegedly fabricating paperwork to purchase cars valued at GH¢4.8 million, according to the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament.
The proposal comes after Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor called for the urgent interdiction of Mr. Kpodo, citing the purported use of forged documents in an attempt to purchase the vehicles to monitor the general elections in 2024.
During a special examination of government obligations and payables, the Auditor-General had previously rejected shop receipt vouchers worth GH¢4.8 million, pointing out that the vehicles in question were not supplied.
Mr. Kpodo, who is currently a procurement official at the Ministry of Lands, clarified that the vehicles were originally delivered but were later taken because of worries that payment might not be made during a PAC public hearing in Parliament House on Tuesday in Accra.
He claimed that afterward, he suggested to management that the contract be extended.
Members of the Committee were deeply troubled by his explanation, nevertheless.
Mr. Dafeamekpor reaffirmed his demand for interdiction while rejecting the reason.
“You personalised the transactions, so they became your personal burden,” Mr. Dafeamekopr stated. “How many cars were involved? If you can’t tell us where the vehicles are, at least tell us how many there were. “
“So, for me, my demand is that the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources should interdict this man. He should be interdicted.”
The Public Accounts Committee’s Ranking Member, Mr. Samuel Atta-Mills, responded by endorsing the request that Mr. Kpodo be prosecuted by the Attorney General.
